Less well-known perhaps than Sweden’s East and West coasts are the hidden gems to be discovered in and around Lake Vänern. As well as scenic beauty, you will find peace and tranquility. Dalbo Lake, for example, located in the western part of Lake Vänern, offers a wide range of undisturbed coves and picturesque ports.
The pleasant little town of Åmål is beautifully situated in the north western corner of Lake Vänern. When you sail along the west coast towards Åmål you will pass a lovely archipelago named Tösse. A little further north from Tösse, you will see the lighthouse of Fogdön, which is still in use. The harbour entrance leads you directly into the town centre with its well preserved old wooden buildings.
We recommend a visit to Åmål at any time but, if you are a Blues fan, try to time it to coincide with the Blues Festival. Åmål’s Blues Festival has become a truly international event. For four days in July, Blues is played on every street corner and the city is full of life. You will find further information at: www.bluesfest.net
